NordVPN Review (2026): Privacy, Speed, and Real Limitations

What NordVPN is, in one paragraph

NordVPN is a consumer VPN from Nord Security. Its server page lists thousands of servers across 225 locations and documents NordLynx, OpenVPN, IKEv2/IPSec, and NordWhisper; availability depends on the platform. A subscription supports 10 simultaneous devices. Related products include NordPass for passwords, NordLocker for encrypted cloud storage, and Saily for eSIM connectivity. NordLayer is a business network-security product, not cloud storage.

Who this review is NOT for

If you need a free VPN, NordVPN isn’t it — the free trial is time-limited and the product is built around annual subscriptions. If you’re a privacy purist who wants a flat-rate, no-email-required VPN, Mullvad (€5/month, cash payment) is a better fit.

What works well

Jurisdiction and privacy posture

NordVPN publishes a no-logs policy and information about external audits. These are useful documents to read, but incorporation or an audit is not a guarantee against every form of surveillance. A consumer VPN does not protect an unlocked device or stop services you sign into from identifying you.

Server network

The official page lists 225 locations and distinguishes physical from virtual servers. Check the actual location and server type you need rather than judging coverage by a changing headline count. A location in the list does not guarantee access on every local network or to a specific streaming catalog.

Pricing transparency (mostly)

The consumer pricing page separates introductory charges from annual renewal charges. Our October check returned Japanese-yen offers, so we cannot responsibly present those as current US-dollar prices. Check the local checkout for the total first-term payment, bonus months, tax, and renewal cost. A displayed monthly equivalent is not necessarily a monthly payment plan.

Independent benchmark results

We do not have a reproducible benchmark or current platform-by-platform streaming test for this review. Earlier speed figures and guaranteed-unblocking claims have been removed. Check performance on your own connection and read the streaming service’s terms; a VPN does not grant viewing rights.

What doesn’t work well

Interface preferences need your own check

The server documentation describes map and list controls. We have not used the current apps to evaluate their interface. Check the app on your device before deciding whether its connection controls and extra features fit your routine.

Promotional pricing resets

Introductory pricing applies to the first subscription period. The official terms say later renewal uses the then-applicable price, and annual charges can be collected up to 14 days before renewal. Check the renewal notice and turn off auto-renewal in Nord Account if you don’t want another term.

10-device limit

The current allowance is ten simultaneous connections, not the six stated in the previous version. That matches Proton VPN’s paid allowance; Surfshark documents unlimited connections. Count the devices you actually plan to connect before choosing a subscription.

Upsell pressure

The pricing page offers VPN-only and bundled security plans. Compare what each tier includes and check the final selection before paying. We have not verified a universal checkout default across regions.

Pricing breakdown

Checked October 5, 2026 on the consumer pricing page. One-month, one-year, and two-year introductory terms were listed. We removed the old dollar table because region-specific offers do not establish a current USD rate.

Direct purchases have a 30-day initial-purchase money-back window. Cancellation of auto-renewal and a refund request are different actions. The official page directs Amazon Store, Apple App Store, and Google Play purchasers to request refunds from their stores. Check the terms for your payment channel before subscribing.
