If you want the largest possible user pool in a specific city, Grindr (for gay and bi men) or Tinder (for everyone, with binary gender by default) will surface more local matches. Taimi’s pool is smaller. If you find the idea of a “community feed” inside a dating app exhausting, Taimi’s social layer may also annoy you.
What we liked
Best-in-class identity tooling
Taimi lets you write in your own gender identity and pronouns, including neopronouns. There is no “are you sure?” prompt when you select nonbinary. The default gender field during signup is multi-select, not single-select, which is a small UX choice that quietly changes the tone of the whole app. Compared to mainstream apps that bolt on a “they/them” option years late, Taimi’s identity tooling feels designed by and for queer users.
Verification that actually runs
Taimi requires photo verification for verified badge status. According to the official App Store listing, verification is typically processed within 24 hours. Verified profiles show up more prominently in discovery. Fake accounts still exist — this is the internet — but the enforcement is described as more rigorous than apps where verification is a checkbox no one completes.
Free-tier usability is real
Taimi’s free tier is more usable than HER’s. You can match, message, and use most filters without paying. The paywall is real but doesn’t cut you off from basic functionality the way HER does. For budget-conscious users, Taimi is described as the most functional free LGBTQ+ dating app in public reviews.
Live streams are oddly useful
Taimi has a live-streaming feature that sounds like a bolt-on but turns out to be a low-pressure way to test the waters with potential matches and make friends before sliding into DMs. Yes, it’s also noisy. Yes, the incentives for streamers can feel gamified. But for users in smaller queer communities, the streams are a legitimate entry point.

Smaller user base
This is Taimi’s biggest practical weakness. In major US cities (NYC, LA, Chicago), the pool is solid. Outside those metros, it thins fast. In rural areas and smaller countries, you may find fewer than 30 active profiles within a reasonable radius. Taimi knows this — they market heavily on inclusivity rather than reach.
Live streams can be noisy
The live-streaming feature cuts both ways. If you don’t actively curate your feed, it fills with notifications about streamers you don’t care about. Most users disable stream notifications within a week. We did.
Pricing is good but not transparent
Taimi’s paid tier is cheaper than HER at equivalent duration, but the app doesn’t make the price comparison easy. You have to scroll past the “free trial” pitch to find the actual monthly cost. As of July 25, 2026, the official App Store listing shows:
